Early Childhood Music

Involvement with music enriches a child’s life and helps develop aesthetic senses. Great music educators including Kodaly, Dalcroze and Suzuki have stressed the importance of beginning musical experiences early in life, before the age of eight years. kids-choir-600ideBefore commencing formal study of a musical instrument children need to be introduced to and involved in a variety of musical activities that help to develop aural perception, memory, and understanding of the basic elements of music. The Early Childhood Music Program provides a program of sequenced musical experiences commencing at 2 years of age and continuing until 5 years. Conducted by Tracey Burton, the program contains a variety of enjoyable activities – songs, rhymes, movement and the playing of hand-held percussion instruments. The program is structured in four terms with nine weeks per term. For further information, see this PDF brochure:  Early Childhood Music
