Frequently Asked Questions

What level do I need to be to join the Youth Orchestra?

We recommend a minimum standard of grade 3 AMEB or above to ensure students get the most enjoyment out of their experience. That being said we welcome anyone who wants to give it a go!

What if I’ve never played in an ensemble before?

Don’t stress! The Coffs Coast Youth Orchestra is run by Hurley Baker, who creates an encouraging and fun experience for all involved.

What if I can’t make every rehearsal?

Hurley understands that we all have commitments and that things change. While students are encouraged to make a commitment to weekly rehearsals, we understand life happens and are always working with students to make sure we can fit in with busy schedules and commitments.

I don’t know much classical music, will this impact my experience of the Youth Orchestra?

Not at all! We develop programs and repertoire that changes each term and is a healthy mix of classical, contemporary and movie music so there’s always something for everyone.
