Instrumental
and Vocal Tuition
The Conservatorium offers music tuition for a wide range of
instruments, including piano and voice, and in all styles of music.
Our Music Staff are very experienced, highly trained and
can deliver tuition to suit most needs.
Music lessons can be taken weekly or fortnightly and fees
are set according to the length of the lesson. Most students
undertake single study, enjoying the full attention of the
teacher in a lesson that is structured just for them. However,
some group tuition is available on request.
Depending on the instrument selected, single study tuition
can begin as early as 5 years of age and continues into adult
learning opportunities.
Lessons in Theory and Musicianship are also available and
the Conservatorium is well placed to support students through
practical examination processes such as Higher School Certificate,
Trinity College London and Australian Music Examinations Board.

Ensembles
Playing music with others encourages participation and teamwork,
trains concentration, develops fine motor skills, and nurtures
high standards of social behaviour. Participation in ensemble
music making also contributes to a healthy breadth of life
experience and is fun! Conservatorium ensembles are
a part of the local live music scene, with public performance
opportunities scheduled annually.
Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium encourages students
enrolled in tuition to take part in the various ensembles
at the Conservatorium. Students currently enrolled in music
tuition at the Conservatorium can join an ensemble free of
charge. Students not currently enrolled for music tuition
may also join these ensembles. In this instance, a fee of
$60 per term is charged for participation. The annual enrolment fee of $35 is also applicable.

Early
Childhood Music

Involvement with music enriches a childs life and helps
develop aesthetic senses. Great music educators including
Kodaly, Dalcroze and Suzuki have stressed the importance of
beginning musical experiences early in life, before the age
of eight years.
Before commencing formal study of a musical instrument children
need to be introduced to and involved in a variety of musical
activities that help to develop aural perception, memory,
and understanding of the basic elements of music.
The Early Childhood Music Program offered by Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium provides a program
of sequenced musical experiences commencing at 2 years of
age and continuing until 5 years.
The Early Childhood Music Program, conducted by Tracey Burton, contains a variety of enjoyable
activities - songs, rhymes, movement and the playing of hand-held percussion
instruments. The program is structured in four terms with
nine weeks per term. |

Schools are encouraged to contact the Director to discuss a program which best suits their student needs.
Currently the Conservatorium is delivering music programs in three public sector primary schools (including Crossmaglen Public School, see this video), one private sector primary school and one private sector high school. Five Conservatorium teachers are involved in the delivery of these programs, which range from group tuition in guitar and keyboard, instrumental tuition in wind and brass, a general music appreciation program based around the curriculum program for K-6 students, and a choral program.
