The Coffs Harbour City Council and a generous local benefactor have recently gifted the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium (CHRC) with a professional concert grand which will take pride of place in the recital hall. The piano will provide opportunities to attract high profile musicians to give concerts as well as providing many of our gifted local students to experience hearing and playing a first-class concert piano. The cost of the restoration is $20,000 as opposed to over $140,000 for a new instrument.

 “The piano restoration project serves as a fantastic illustration of collaboration between the Coffs Council, the Conservatorium, and the local community, including our local small to medium-sized businesses working together to enhance the opportunities and lives of residents of all ages in Coffs “ says Mayor Nikki Williams.

The Conservatorium offers diverse programs to cater for all ages and groups of people who want to study and perform music. This ranges from early childhood programs through to seniors. It also includes out-reach programs and training musicians with diverse tastes from rock, jazz, classical, and contemporary techno.

Presently the Conservatorium is reaching out to raise funds to restore this wonderful community asset. According to the Board Chair Dr Terrence Hays this community asset provides wide reaching opportunities and potential for all musicians. For that reason, we are pursuing sponsorships from major corporations in our area to support programs that help people, especially our younger aspiring musicians to hone their skills. Presently the Conservatorium has 8 gifted students travelling with the NSW Regional Youth Orchestra undertaking a concert tour in Europe.
