Ensembles

Share the joy of playing music with others

Ensemble comes from the French word “together”

Ensembles are groups of musicians who play music together, and the Con has a great ensemble program for all levels and styles of music.
We encourage all students to join an ensemble, taught by our highly qualified tutors.

Why play in an ensemble?

Playing music with others is a whole lot of fun!
Whether harmonising in a choir, performing in a quartet or jamming with your friends, music students of all ages learn how to share attention, cooperate and collaborate.
Playing in an ensemble will increase your skills in harmony, rhythm, balance, intonation and performance – and you’ll be able to take what you’ve learned back into your individual lessons.

Master your instrument, master the music and then forget all that and just play!

Frequently Asked Questions

Ensemble rehearsals vary from 30 – 90 minutes.

Yes!  We have a range of instruments available for hire – apart from pianos, which are too big! Contact us for more information.

The Academy takes gifted musicians from all over the Coffs region who have reached the equivalent of Grade 6 or above, by audition only, regardless of whether they have lessons at the Con.  Other ensembles are for current students.

It’s the difference between “take” and “make”!  Individual lessons give students the chance to work on technique and ‘take’ learning from their tutor.  Ensembles enable students to start ‘making’ music with each other, once they have reached a certain level of proficiency.

Yes, they do!  We have a varied schedule of performances throughout the year, and our ensembles are often invited to perform at external events such as the Bello Winter Music Festival.

We love classical music.  And jazz. And hip-hop.  And chamber music, and pop music…  In fact, we love ALL kinds of music and our tutors and students play all kinds of music!
You certainly don’t have to be a classical musician to study at the Con (although we love teaching classical techniques too), so speak to your tutor or contact our office for more information about how you play the kinds of music you love.

Ensemble rehearsal times and waiting lists

Ensembles rehearsals are held at various times of the week.

Ensemble programs run for nine weeks each term, in line with the NSW public school term dates.
We take enrolments at any time into most groups, but our programs are popular so you may be placed on a short waiting list.

Whether you know what group you’re interested in or you’d like more information, we can help you select the best ensemble for your needs – contact us on 02 6652 1592 or register your interest and we’ll get in touch with you!
